I've had this slow vista update problem for some time. In fact, I stopped installing rec. & critical updates months ago and now have 51 on the list. Tried just one, last night, it downloaded and showed "creating restore point" for a very long time. When I tried to "restart", the blue/green screen "saying do not shut down or turn off" stayed up for HOURS until I finally pulled the plug. The next day, machine started normally. 2 months ago I paid MSF $60 to have their "expert" tell me to reload Vista!!! When all else fails - PUNT!!!!!! I know that Gateway configured the "D" partition as "Recovery" and have a copy of the procedure to use it. My main concern is the prep work and ALL the manual "stuff" to reload apps.!!!!
Anyone have ideas?? I believe I actually created the problem by using "PC Move" to bring goodies over from the old XP computer.
