Not really sure where to post this question, so since the question regards a Vista box I'll try here.
I have a primary HD (Hitachi Deskstar T7K250 160GB 7200rpm) which is just dismally slow and obnoxiously loud. It's always been slow, even since before I put Vista on the machine. I have tried defragging multiple times, disk clean up, etc, nothing seems to help. I have verified the box is virus free (I run nightly scans with AVG and rarely download anything). I also have all the latest Vista updates.
My question is this, if I purchase a new hard drive (one with more capacity), is there a way to simply image my current drive onto the new one, then swap them out and boot my machine as normal from the new drive? If so, what kind of complications are common with such a task?
Obviously, I want to do the HD upgrade without having to reinstall windows and all my apps and games, so any insight on whether this is possible and how to go about it would be greatly appreciated. Or, if anyone has any silver bullet suggestions to significantly improve the performance of current drive, would love to hear 'em.
Thanks!
E.
