My computer will boot up, and it will then freeze a few seconds or about a minute later. I am on a family member's computer right now. I installed a Nvidia driver and also Valve's program Steam to install Portal. Steam and Portal worked fine. After installing the drivers I needed to restart my computer for them to take effect. I didn't restart in a while but then I had to unplug-replug something and so I had to restart my computer. After restarting, the computer spontaneously froze after startup (and once during startup.) Safe mode did nothing different.
I tried a system restore but it froze in the middle. I tried to uninstall the drivers manually, but when I restarted, the same problem occurred.
I am running Vista Ultimate. I cannot remember the name of my Nvidia graphics card- I can't make it to the place where it gives the name of the card without my computer freezing. I know that it was a GEForce and it also said nForce 400 on the end, I think.
please help... the computer is important to my job.
