I just recently had three new upgrades put on my computer: Vista, IE 7, and MS Office Standard 2007. Since these upgrades, I have tried to install several programs, and each time I get the same error message...
"This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."
I originally thought it was a problem with Adobe, because I first got the message when I tried to install Acrobat Reader. Since then, I have tried to install Java and an e-book application and recieved the same error message. (I did install Flash player and Picasa with no problems.)
A friend suggested the following solution, but it did not help:
1. Go to this weblink to download and install this program. http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe- Choose Start > all Programs > Windows Installer CleanUp to start the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
- Select the previous version of Adobe which should be the first selection and click remove.(screenshot below)
- Try installing acrobat reader again.
Does anyone have any other suggestions?
