I run Vista Home Premium. I like it very well, but for some reason I haven't been able to run updates from ANY source at all since Jan 14?? I had Norton, Spyhunter One Care, Windows Defender. I could not update any of these programs. I called my Server and after a few days, they scratched their heads and said it was not their problem, at least not on their end?? Norton said it was probably a virus. I dumped them when they said that. Why run Norton if they aren't protecting me? My settings are configured to detect the DNS automatically.
I downloaded The Shield Deluxe, but immediately after downloading they said they cannot check for updates because I am not connected to the Internet?? I can do anything in the Internet except run updates??
I deleted all of my spyware and virus scan programs and rebooted. Still no updates. I cannot even go to Windows and run updates. I have auto updates set to receive everyday.
I decided to do a system restore..NOT ONE RESTORATION DATE WAS AVAILABLE? I decided to just dump all and do a complete system recovery, but I have no recovery disk.
Does anyhone have any idea what I can do?
I downloaded One Care and they found a Trojan Win32/Alureon.BG...but they cannot remove it. ALso I cannot run updates there either? I'm going outside and eat grass.

Sounds like you have a good (and, I mean devastating) virus. When these things happen to me I reformat the hard drive and reinstall the OS. The virus ate into your Vista and did a job on you.

Do you know how to get your valuable stuff off and reformat?

That will start you from scratch. Do you have recovery discs? In the future, I would definitely suggest you invest in (KAV )Kaspersky Anti Virus only. It will take care of everything for you. Not Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS)- just KAV. It will check you downloads and emails BEFORE they get to your computer. That's what you need. What you have didn't work... Obviously.

If you can't / won't reformate - Get KAV and do a complete system scan. It may do the trick.

Good luck.
Hope this helped alittle.

* I didn't realize when I posted this how long ago your problem started. What was the result?
