I have access to Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional and I want to insert an image into an existing Adobe PDF. The file is not protected so that is not an obstacle.

I have Googled up all I know to Google up on inserting an image into a PDF; but, if the instructions I've found are actually on how to insert an image, the writers are writing entirely over my head. To be clear, I know just a very little about Acrobat.

The easiest way to do it if you do not have the source file is to open the file and then go to Document> Add Watermark
Choose your image, play around with the positioning (use mm, not inches) and be careful to choose which pages you want you picture to be displayed (top RHS of dialogue)
Save and there you have it!!
Please be aware that all you can do is place an image ON a page. You cannot insert one where you want and then have text wrap around it.
PDF acts like a printer. You print to pdf instead of printing to a physical printer.
It is not a creation program.
To create use Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, or even MSWord
