Find the Fun and Fashionable Jackets

Find the Fun and Fashionable Jackets

Nothing polishes off an outfit like the perfect jacket. Whether you are pairing it with your favorite pair of jeans, mixing it with a stylish new skirt, or using it to top of a fun and funky dress, a jacket can be the perfect accessory.

How to Find Fun and Fashionable Jackets

Step1

Examine your wardrobe to determine what pieces of clothing you are looking to top off with your new jacket choices. Take photographs of the items or take the clothes with you when you go shopping.

Step2

If you're petite, steer clear of jacket cuts, shapes and styles that will make you look even shorter. Petite women with short torsos should choose a slightly longer jacket length than those with longer torsos. That type of jacket will elongate your upper body.

On the flip side, however, petite women with longer torsos should go slightly short - - about waist length to the upper one-third of the hip - - to elongate the lower torso.

Step3

If you're tall, avoid bolero or short jackets that will make you look out of proportion. Standard, hip length jackets will work much better than calf length or dusters that accentuate your height.

Step4

Women of average height can choose among a wide range of jacket cuts, shapes, and styles. Shorter jackets can look trendy with dresses and blouses. Longer dusters can lengthen the overall look to give the illusion of a thinner body. And you are about the only body type who can easily carry off those trendy calve-length jackets and sweater coats.

Step5

Larger women or women with large busts should avoid double-breasted jackets that call attention to their chests. Small to medium busted women with smaller upper torsos may want that extra bulk to give the illusion of fullness and shape.

Step6

Avoid short, boxy jackets. They rarely look good on anyone. Jackets that skim the hips, on the other hand, work well on just about any body type.
For the most part, jackets that curve in at the waist are far more complimentary on a woman's figure than those that are cut straight like a man's jacket. Most women should accentuate the narrowest part of their waist. This will help to minimize a lot of stomach issues. Just about everyone should avoid heavy, bulky jackets. They tend to make everyone look bigger.

Step7

Choose jacket colors that complement your own personal coloring and that will work with your wardrobe. Don't get hung up on what is or isn't popular at the time. Choose only those colors that you know you will wear.

Step8

Avoid too much embellishment. If they are hot at the moment, you may want to choose one jacket that incorporates them. But, overall, stick with simple classic jackets, such as pinstripes or solids, that can withstand the test of time.

Step9

Choose fabrics that are versatile and can be worn year round as much as possible. If you want one or two seasonal jackets, go for those that will work year after year, like velvet or leather.
