Turkish film awarded in Egypt
Turkish movie-maker Dervis Zaim's film Dot has won the
Best Digital Film Award in the
32nd International Cairo Film Festival
The film was earllier presented with the
"Best Music Award" during the
Montpellier Film Festival in
France.
Directed and written by
Zaim,
Dot recounts the tale of a man who is tormented by a crime he once committed, and now seeks to redeem himself.
Persuaded by a friend, Ahmet reluctantly becomes involved in the theft of an antique and invaluable
Koran. However, this act pushes him into unwanted and unfamiliar territory.
The action of the film, which advances along an axis of crime and punishment, organically incorporates one of Turkey's traditional art forms, calligraphy, into the story.
