Peres: Gaza must not become Iran satellite
Written by Egypt News Thursday, 08 January 2009
Shimon Peres, the Israeli President reported the
Gaza Strip must not become a satellite site for the
Islamic Republic of
Iran
An interview with
Italian daily La Repubblica, said
Peres Thursday that "our goals are clear: we do not want to make
Gaza a satellite of
Iran, and we don't want a
ceasefire but the end of the terror"
He said that "
Hamas must stop firing", adding that "we do not want to prolong the war, and we have no territorial ambitions for
Gaza. With this operation, there is a chance for peace”
The process of a
ceasefire plan proposed by
France and
Egypt could take several days, said
Peres
He said
Israel told the
UN Secretary General that several
United Nations buildings are used as protection for terrorist activities, and asked him to resolve this problem, adding that “that hasn't been done”
Israeli forces attacked three
UN-run schools in the
Gaza Strip on Tuesday, killing at least 45 civilians, most of whom were
Palestinians who had taken refuge in the buildings to escape the raining
Israeli fire on
Gaza.
The
Israeli onslaught has so far claimed the lives of over 710
Palestinians, half of whom are women and children. More than 3,100 others have also been wounded.
