Some Egyptians working in the
United Arab Emirates (UAE) have said that the number of Egyptians fired in the
UAE has reached around 150,000 workers, stressing that this figure could double over the coming days
The
Egyptian Club held a meeting in
Dubai on Saturday night in which they hosted Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs,
Ambassador Ahmed Rizk
They demanded at the meeting that the current crisis be regarded as an exceptional case and that the dismissed
Egyptians be allowed taking back their furniture and cars to
Egypt with no customs fees.
In response,
Rizk said that he would discuss this issue with the Ministry of Finance, saying he hoped the
UAE would meet their request.
Nevertheless, he said the current economic conditions in the country did not allow any exemptions on cars, pointing out that the Egyptian Ministry for Foreign Affairs was following up on the issue through the consulates.
During the meeting,
Rizk said a new phenomenon was spreading which he described as painful and degrading, as some
Egyptians started begging in
Sudan while
Egyptian girls carried out indecent actions.
He also pointed out that this phenomenon had annoyed
Sudan and embarrassed
Egypt while affecting the Egyptians' dignity.
He said “there is cooperation between the ministries of foreign affairs, interior and manpower to curb this phenomenon and other negative phenomena associated with
Egyptians living abroad”
He also pointed out that some people still believed that traveling meant going to live like in Heaven.
