Golfing Tours
There is a classical element included in almost all golfing tours. But since these are not really traditional tours, it is difficult to say exactly what might be included. However, usually they may include one or two excursions in Cairo, then maybe Luxor and possibly the Red Sea Riviera or the Sinai. Many of these type Egypt tours set aside the morning or afternoon for golf, with the rest of the day spent sightseeing. But,
you don't have to take a golfing tour to get in a quick golf round; you can arrange for a round of golf at many locations on a typical classic Egypt tour, and most any other type of tour as well. There are quite a nice variety og golf courses throughout Egypt these days.
Fishing Expeditions
Fishing is great on the Nile, and you can fish most anywhere along its banks. You will see Egyptians doing so, even on the bridges and banks right in Cairo. However, there is another area that is definitely becoming more popular, and that is Lake Nasser. Here, you will find some of the largest fresh water fish in the whole world. Plus, fishing expeditions are regularly available. Because Lake Nasser is just south of Aswan,
fishing expeditions will likely include some ancient sightseeing, though many times they will not.
More difficult to find and arrange are deep sea fishing charters in the Red Sea, though if one looks around a bit they are discoverable. For instance, there are deep-sea fishing boats on the Red Sea coast in Hurghada, and in the Sinai at Nuweiba.
Birding Tours
Another activity that has really been catching on in Egypt is bird watching. Many species of birds migrate through Egypt, and they may be found throughout the Nile Valley and the Sinai, with the most popular birding areas being near Aswan, and the Northern Sinai. The typical Aswan birdwatching Bird tour will usually include an ancient tour, or you might arrange some birdwatching as an addition to a standard ancient tour. But since there are not many ancient monuments in the Northern Sinai, these Egypt tours rarely involve any classical component.
Nature Tours
The Sinai is the most popular area for nature tours, particularly the mountain region of mid-south Sinai. And these tours generally are about more than nature, including a healthy dose of spiritually along with the natural aspects.
Add On Tours
What makes touring in Egypt really fascinating is the ability to mix and match "add-on tours". For instance, you may come to Egypt specifically for a classical pharaonic tour, but decide to add on a wonderful beach vacation . . . or maybe you come for a little scuba diving and add a Kenya Safari. Most tour operators in Egypt are more than happy to arrange an almost endless variety of add-ons to their standard tours. The two types of tours that are most commonly afforded add-on opportunities are the classical and religious tours. However, almost any Egypt vacation tour can be altered with an add-on or two - in fact, some add-on tours end up as virtually complete tours for some people.
Add-on tours almost always are targeted at a specific destination. These include:
Western Desert
The Western Desert is really catching on a favorite with tourists, especially
the Bahariya oasis, where the valley of the golden Mummies was recently discovered, and where new discoveries are almost the daily norm. Notably, the Siwa Oasis where Alexander the Great visited the Oracle of Amun in 331 B.C. has been a favorite oasis for tourists for many years. Although the Western desert is the primary destination for many Egypt tours, it is more likely to be an add-on to a classical tour.
The Eastern desert is rarely a primary destination for Egypt tours.
Sinai Peninsula
When it comes to beach vacations, the Sinai Peninsula is a popular destination. In fact, many religious and trekking tours also cover this region. More typically though, the beaches are an add-on, particularly for religious Egypt tours, and various other Egypt tours.
