Will a USB 2 HD work on an older computer with only USB 1 connections? I have a friend with an older HP computer and I don't know about the USB ports, but suspect they are the older type. He wants to get an external HD and I found a USB 2 1TB...

Will a USB 2 HD work on an older computer with only USB 1 connections? I have a friend with an older HP computer and I don't know about the USB ports, but suspect they are the older type. He wants to get an external HD and I found a USB 2 1TB external drive for him, but am not sure it will work on the computer he is using. Are they backward compatible? Will the speed of the transfers be the only problem?
