We have an MSA 1000 storage device (9 x 73Gb 10K) disks. We are using almost all the space in use, obviously simply adding more disks will sove that issue.

However we are experiencing huge slow downs in accessing files on the the device, people's email freezing up, extremely slow accessing docs in general.

I have watched performance monitor when these problems occur, with the %Disk TIme and Avg. Disk Queue Length counters switched on and they are going through the roof.

Avg: 1113.651
Max: 4109.931
Min: 66.16

My problem is how do I track down what is causing this disk activity? It is not the disk where the Page File is, also the server is showing no high CPU or Memory usage so it is not struggling anywhere except for the disk usage.

Please help me work out where the problem is and if a new SAN or just new disks are needed?
