I have two computers, one using Vista and the second using XP with Service Pack 3. The Vista is on third floor of house. The XP (newly installed) on first floor of house. Several years ago I wired the house so that they are linked, hardwire, via router. No matter what I do, I cannot get info from one computer to the other.
1. Both computers firewalls have been modified to allow fire and printer sharing.
2. Both computers have same name for workgroup.
3. Both have files designated for file sharing.
4. I did work as administrator on the Vista. The XP unit wide open (no administrator)
5. I followed procedures listed on each computer to set up networks and workgroups.
6. I downloaded LLTD responder onto XP in case lack thereof the problem, but when I tried to install notice came up that I had a more recent service pack already on the unit and so did not need to add the responder.
Still no luck in trying to read into on one computer from the other, either as part of network or (as I believe the more likely route) workgroup.
Vista unit does not recognize XP unit. XP unit does not automatically but eventually recognizes existance of Vista unit, but when I try to connect I get dreaded "you are not authorized etc" message.
After three days of running up and down stairs, any help that can be provided would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks
