I have a D-Link DI-724U router that has a built-in print server function. I have used it for several years with XP machines, and it works perfectly for running my HP PSC 1210xi printer. I just bought a new Vista machine, and I set up the printer. However, the printer freezes at the bottom of the first page every time I print. I have searched through forums, and come up with several ideas to try to solve the problem.
I tried setting up the printer a few different ways on the vista machine:
1) I first set it up using the router's printer setup utility. The test page prints to the bottom of the page, then freezes.
2) As a check, I uninstalled the printer, then connected the printer directly to the vista machine via USB, installed it, and it printed fine.
3) Then I tried setting it up as a network printer through vista's print wizard and printing through the DI-724U again. Same freezing issue.
4) Then I uninstalled the printer, connected the USB directly to the vista machine again, set it up, verified it worked, then moved the printer back to the DI-724U and changed the printer port configuration to go through the IP port. The page printed fine when connected directly to the computer, but froze when going through the DI-724U.
5) I also borrowed a 2nd vista machine to try it again to make sure it wasn't a problem specific to the machine. Same issue.
Any other ideas?
