I have installed a new 500Gig Sata hard Drive in my Dell Optiplex GX620.
It has a CD/DVD-ROM, I put my XP pro CD in and it started up.
It formatted the Hard Drive, then it copied files to the Hard Drive,
Then it started to install XP pro, and it came up with and Error.
It was very fague, just fatal error, could not find file i386/
It said replace disk and hit OK
I did this and it keeps coming up with the same error.
Is there anything Dell has on the mother board that would get in the way of XP installing?
One of the guys at work said it may be the CD/DVD-rom, he said it may not be reading or tracking correctly. But it did format the hard drive, so does anyone have any ideas. I will swap the CD/DVD rom out tonight to see if that is it. If it is not I am lost.
I just did not know if there was something on the mother board or Bios that would block the XP. Iown the XP software, it is from my old system that died a couple months ago, So I should still be able to use it on this system.
Any suggestions would be helpful and Thanks in advance.
