I ran the last set of updates from MS (security update & something to do with outlook & malicious software tool IIRC), which resulted in my pc booting to a blank screen - safe mode & system restore took care of that, but my MCE remote(V.2) has topped working too & no longer shows up in device mgr.
Machine is an E6300, running MCE 2005, SP3, only hardware I've added was an NVidia 8800 about 3 months ago. The LED on the remote lights upwhen the buttons are pressed, which leads me to believe it's working and this is a driver/software issue of some sort (so long as the sensor's not broken; I don't know anyone else who runs MCE to test it on unfortunately).
The only thing that I've found that seems relevant is a hardware fault in the remote that can be rectified by removing the batteries till the caps drain & reinserting them. Which does nothing(yes, I tried new batteries first as well). Anyhow, that wouldn't explain it not showing up in device mgr either, would it?
Weird thing is, if Windows HAD magically removed the driver on its own (something I am not prepared to dismiss as a cause), you would think unplugging, rebooting & plugging it back in would cause it to reinstall itself, but it doesn't. I've looked for an installer for the drivers, to no avail. Anyhoo, they ought to be bundled in MCE, oughtn't they? It's a P'n'P device, like a USB stick after all, isn't it? Thing is, it's not showing up as an unrecognised device, or I'd have somewhere to start
I
did find an alternative driver for them, but I'd rather get the thing working with the right one than start messing about with homebrewed code.
Of course, it might just be broken. Any ideas?
