I'm in the process of buying a PC from Dell (don't ask...) and requested it come with an nVidia GTX280. They don't do the GTX range and have substituted it in the quote with an FX4600, stating that it was "a better card anyway".
When I build my own PCs my budgets don't generally stretch to these levels, so I'm not exactly up to speed, but my initial research would indicate that the FX4600 is well behind the GTX280 in terms of processors, power, memory width and pretty much everything else. Am I missing something, or is there a bit of salesmanship going on from Dell?
Money no object, would you rather have a GTX280 1.5GB, or an FX4600 768MB? What are the pros and cons, and how much extra performance do I get from one to the other?
Cheers,
