been having trouble with my internet connection in the last few days. prior to these problems, my internet has been running fine.

upon a restart there was no connection. windows is configuring my connection settings and a shift to the wireless card was no help. upon a diagnostic check i was receiving the 'Error releasing the current IP address: The system cannot find the file specified.' message with zeroes in the IP address.

i left it overnight and today i restored the router to factory settings just in case. the wired ethernet connection on my housemate's computer is fine, as is any other laptop that is connecting wirelessly.

i thought it may have been a wireless card problem but using an adapter brings no change. however, when left (using obatain ip address settings automatically) i will eventually receive a connection, albeit when i load pages up they are drastically slow (dial up slow) or fail to load with a 'page load error'.

it may be helpful to note i also had a trojan recently but have run malwarebytes anti-malware and each time it returns two trojan.agents in the registry data which are there EVERYTIME i run the scan.

i am using microsoft windows xp. and a belkin wireless 54mbps desktop adapter which is 'working properly' apparently.
