The problem exists accessing my Vista system from any Windows 2000 or Windows XP system on my network and does not present between Windows 2000, or XP systems.
If I access a shared resource, a drive, printer, etc., on my Vista system from any of my 2000 or XP systems, there is a 60-second delay before the Vista system responds. Example: I go to Network Neighborhood and click on the Vista system. It takes a full 60 seconds before the hour glass goes away and the shared resources appear. The length of time is very consistent and will happen twice in a row if I try it again immediately after closing the Network Neighborhood window. The result is also the same if I do it from a "Search" window.
Can this be remedied?
All systems are running P4, socket-478, 3-GHz CPUs and either 512 or 1 Gig of RAM. The vista system has 1-Gig RAM as does one of the 2000 systems; but, the result is the same on all systems.
As a test, I used XCOPY to copy some files from the XP and 2000 systems to the Vista system just to see if I would get any error or delay. The XCOPY went beautifully and instantly. This XCOPY test was done after a shutdown and restart on both the Vista and 2000 and XP systems.
