Hello, I am hoping someone here might have some thoughts on what could cause a self-installing USB device to fail.
I am running Windows XP Pro SP2.
I purchased a Mint 220 wireless USB device. This device requires no software. The USB device is supposed to automatically install when you plug it into a USB port. However, rather than seeing the System Tray messages that it found new hardware and then installs the hardware, I am getting the Found New Hardware Wizard. It is looking for an .inf file for the USB device, but the driver file does not exist and there is no place to direct the wizard.
I tried rebooting, but the problem still exists. I tried reading the user guide for this product and looking at the FAQs, but my problem was not described. I contacted the tech support people, but they only came up with a series of steps to try that did not work.
So now I am wondering if there is some device setting or registry setting that is preventing me from self-installing this device. I have not changed any settings on my system, and I have never experienced this problem with any other device. I also tried switching to different USB ports with the same effect.
Can anyone help? Thanks.
