(BEIJING, August 12) -- BOCOG President Liu Qi met the Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Sport for Development and Peace, Wilfried Lemke, here on Tuesday afternoon, August 12.
Liu Qi said that Mr. Lemke had witnessed at the August 8 Opening Ceremony the Chinese people's unique understanding of the Olympic Movement and their hospitality towards friends from around the world. At the Opening Ceremony, athletes from different nations and regions united under the Olympic banner and wished one another luck, displaying the close bond of the Olympic Family and the vitality of the Olympic Movement.

With the help and support of the international community, Beijing is holding a "special and first-class" edition of the Olympic Games. Competition organization, cultural publicity, logistics and services and city operations are all proceeding smoothly.
BOCOG wishes all athletes good results, Liu said. And through the Olympic Games, China can further expand communication and cooperation with other nations in sports, education, culture, and technology and make great contributions to the mutual development of mankind, lasting peace and prosperity and a harmonious world, Liu Qi continued.
Lemke agreed that the Opening Ceremony on Friday was an excellent showing of Chinese civilization in front of the entire world. The successful ceremony demonstrated that the Beijing Olympic Games will be first-class Olympic Games, he said.
Also present at the meeting was Tu Mingde, assistant to the president of BOCOG.
