Beach Volleyball Review Day 3: Rogers and Dalhausser embrace first vicotry
(BEIIJNG, August 11) -- The Beach Volleyball competition finished its Day 3 run Monday at the Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Ground in Beijing.
In the Men's competition, the No. 2 seeds Todd Rogers and Philip Dalhausser took their first 2-0 victory 21-15, 21-10 in a match against Sascha Heyer and Patrick Heuscher of Switzerland.
Athens 2004 gold medalists Ricardo Santos and Emanuel Rego of Brazil took a firm step on their way to defend their title by beating Renato Gomes and Jorge Terceiro of Georgia 2-0 scoring 21-19 and 21-17.
In the Women's competition, top seeds Tian Jia and Wang Jie of China took the match against Liesbeth Mouha and Liesbet van Breedam of Belgium. But the victory did not come easily. After a slow start that cost them a first set loss, the Chinese duo battled back to finish the match with a 2-1 victory.
Fighting back from a one-set down, Larissa Franca and Ana Paula Conelly of Brazil won their second match, beating Alexandra Shiryaeva and Natalia Uryadova of Russia 2-1 with scores of 19-21, 21-12, 15-13. The hastily-arranged Brazilian duo proved to be a powerful team and are expected to give fans more pleasant surprises.
