I have an XP machine from Dell and I have replaced the hard drive. I used Partition Magic to copy the partitions from the old drive to the new drive. I copied partitions exactly as they were:
80gb total size:
39mb "Utility" partition - FAT (might be FAT32)
75gb Extended Partition, with C: drive as only logical partition - NTFS
3.2gb (remaining space) as FAT32 D: drive - primary partition.
The D: drive is at the end of the drive, and this is how the old hard drive is, and the new hard drive is now like this as well.
The old drive will still boot with no problems, whether it's the only drive in the system, or if it's the "master".
The new drive will not boot at all. If I boot to my ERD disk, it shows C: as the "primary" partition at the end of the drive (should be D: ) and the D: drive is the logical partition, which should be C:. I went into Disk Manager under ERD and the option to change drive letters was greyed out.
How can I change the drive letters, so the system will boot off the new drive the same way it did off the old drive???
