After a bad virus attack I have recovered most of my XP system. One problem is Explorer Desktop not loading though I can load it manually via task manager. I have tried all the suggested registry edits in HKLM (Winlogon userinit and shell, and a few others) without luck. One thing I noticed is that the welcome screen which normally says "Windows is starting up" has rubbish in the text and I wondered if anyone knows where that text comes from as it may give me a clue as to what is happening. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
