Hello everyone,
This is the second time this happens with me. Disk Boot Failure with XP Pro. I was able to solve this the first time (couple months ago) by removing the battery from the motherboard for a minute therefore resetting the BIOS. This time, that does not help.
The HD is recognized in the BIOS and is showing its full size 80GB. I tried the HD in my other PC and did back up everything. So it is working and not failing.
This is how it happened. I have XP Pro on one HD and wanted to install Ubuntu 8.10 on another HD. Ubuntu's installation went bad and left me with a grub loader error. Uninstalled the grub loader with Super Grub Disk and since then I cannot boot into the XP HD.
Things I have tried so far:
- Booted into the recovery console and "fixmbr" "fixboot" - Result: Did not fix the problem.
- Copying boot.ini, ntdetect.com, ntldr from XP CD to C: - Result: Did not fix it.
- Booted with Super Grub Disk and tried to repair the mbr of windows - Result : Did not fix it.
- Booted with TestDisk and tried to analyse. - Result: I have 10636 cylinders to analyse and each cylinder was taking 5 minutes. Therefore, it was going to take a couple of years to finish, so i stopped it.
- Checked cables, and jumper settings. Everything is the way it is supposed to be.
I am pretty good with computers. I have dealt with such problems before, and I was able to fix them. Not this time.
I would really appreciate your help.
Thank is advance,
