Security - Trend Micro Pro

Primary browser is Firefox 3.0.5

I have just got this new pc and i am in the process of moving my files from the old pc.
I am reinstalling programs one at at time.

A few things have been happing about which i welcome feedback and advice.

1. Firefox has started crashing on a regular basis.

2. After installing the xp3 service pack i cannot open the Trend Micro security software -the security centre says nothing is installed.

3.generally the system has been running slower (althoght it may be my perception) after each time i install a MS security update... i"ve done a bit of research and some say that most of these patchs are really necessary>


I havent yet moved any documents yet so iam thinking about reformating and starting over again.

Any thoughts
