I guess this is a strange problem, but...
I still have dialup (all I can have in my rural area). I have a Caller ID box on the line before the computer, Call Waiting, Voice mail. When I'm online and someone calls it shows on the Caller ID box.
My previous modem (I just replaced) would disconnect on it's own after a few rings. This was good at times, but others (when I didn't want to answer and the Voice Mail could get it) I didn't like it.
Now I have the opposite problem. When I see the Caller ID box, and want to disconnect and answer the call, it's too slow. I can couble click the little computer icons in the taskbar, or START and "Connect to" which says disconnect, but it takes so long for the box to come up (to click disconnect) or the icons to respond, it's too late to answer the phone.
I once read a way to change something in the registry, with a shortcut on the desktop that would shut down Windows faster.
I don't want to shut down Windows, but is there something simliar I coujld set up and click and instantly disconnect from the internet, so the phone will ring and I can answer it in time?
I've looked around, online. I thought there might be some kind of a switch (simple and inexpensive) to put on the phone line to switch from the internet to the phone, but not sure if there is, or what to call it or how to set it up.
When I first got the computer, the modem that came with it was set to work with "Modem on Hold" but when I needed a new modem, the next two I got, it said they don't support this. (I got one and the Modem on Hold didn't work, so I got another one, I thought WOULD work with it, but didn't. I can live without the Modem on Hold, just need something I could click (or switch) that would disconnect from the internet faster would be a help.
Thanks,
Carrie
