Im currently in between a hard place and a rock at the moment. Ill start at the beginning. Two weeks ago I went out for a night and my dad accidently installed spyware/malware that caused firefox and IE to redirect links. After much searching, scans, and deletions, I finally gave up trying to find the spyware and downloaded Opera. Unfortunately two nights ago Opera started redirecting links to various harmful sites.
In response to this I attempted to use System Restore. This failed, for some reason after selecting the restore date, clicking next did nothing. I then decided to go on a deleting spree, removing all unnecessary folders, programs etc. Somewhere along the line I must not have been paying attention and deleted the i386 folder. Of course, all hell broke loose and I couldnt even log into any users be it safe mode or not (I got automatically logged out). So I decided to use the Windows XP Installation cd to replace the files as per instructions found for other people in similar positions.
Now to the real problem: The setup gets to 34 minutes remaining and encounters some problems while installing devices. A number of pop up messages appear, saying:
Quote:
The software you are installing for this hardware:
Intel(R)82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family
has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP.
Continuing your installation of this software may impair or destabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing.
Do you want to continue installing the software for this hardware?
Upon clicking "yes" or "no", another pop up appears replacing the line in italics with "Intel(R)82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 2658". Again, repeating the process brings up more pop-ups, replacing the line with "Intel(R)82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 2659", Intel(R)82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 265A", Intel(R)82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 265B", and Intel(R)82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller - 265C".
After that last pop-up, the keyboard and mouse promptly freeze, and a final pop-up appears replacing the italics line with "Conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc Modem". Unfortunately I now cant click yes or no, and therefore cant continue with the setup. Restarting the comp does nothing, as the computer is in a loop and will continually attempt to start setup regardless of any options chosen through F8 or F12, or even if the CD isnt in the drive. Id really like some help here but the situation is looking bleak...
