Two weeks ago I switched from XP Home to XP Pro. Ever since I installed XP Pro I have been unable to install the printer driver for my Brother HL-1440 laser printer. I've tried installing the full driver and software package as well as the recommended WHQL certified PCL driver. In each instance the OS refuses to allow me to install the printer driver. The message differs slightly depending on which driver package I try to install but what it is telling me is that I don't have permission to change the printer settings, that I should consult the system administrator. But I am the system administrator!! And that's how I'm identified by the OS but still it's refusing to allow me to install the driver. So I haven't been able to print from Windows for two weeks. Fortunately I have a Ubuntu setup and the printer works fine with that OS. I've installed the drivers for this printer several times when I was using XP Home and have never had a problem. I'm just about ready to uninstall XP Pro and go back to XP Home in spite of the supposed greater stability and security of XP Pro. It's extremely frustrating. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
