I was using Windows XP Pro with SP3 when I got a virus. Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get rid of it, so I popped in my Windows XP Pro with SP2 disk, formatted the drive (regular format,
not quick format), and reinstalled.
Sometimes when I reboot, the old version of Windows loads; there are different users on the Welcome screen. Once this happens, I have to use the disk to reinstall/repair and the new installation comes back. I thought for a while that Windows Updates were the trigger, but I just booted up this morning, having not installed any when I shut down last night, and it happened again.
I've read about the fxmbr command in the Recovery Console thanks to users on this forum. Do you think this might fix my problem? Or do you have any alternatives that you thik would work?
Thanks for your help,
Ben
