I downloaded and installed Norton's anti virus from their website and when it installed it removed the old version of Norton's and then asked to reboot the system. When it rebooted windows showed all sorts of error messages, mostly not being able to find files and all icons were now showing as *.lnk.
Tried to run system restore, but it could not find the rstrui.exe file which is the system recovery program. I entered safe mode and tried running safe mode from the command prompt using %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, this did allow me to run system restore and restore back to a week ago, but when it started windows the same errors appeared. Not sure where to go from here. I tried to get to a command prompt in windows and run cmd, but that would not run either. I may have a FAT problem. Does anyone have suggestions what to try next?
