Hi There,
I've tried a few methods of disabling Windows Messenger from running on startup, but none seem to work. I'm running Windows XP Professional SP3, a relatively new installation.
I deseleceted 'run when windows begins' in the program itself, disabled startup in Outlook Express, tried in Office Outlook but couldn't configue it - and don't really want it configured, and ran the: RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC command but it reinstalled on startup.
Tried this: 1. Go to Start -> Run 2. Type in gpedit.msc 3. Go into User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Messenger 4. Set the values to Disabled -- but Windows Messenger is not listed under Windows Components...
I've disabled Messenger Service - although not sure it is the same thing.
Have had problems using a selective startup in msconfig so cannot just disable it there.
Don't want to mess with the sysoc.inf file unless an expert here tells me how.
Know it is only an annoyance but my pc is overloaded at startup and am trying to remove all I can.
Can you help me stop it from running with a method I've not tried?
Thanks Much!
