Boots up and once in the desktop it says it found a 56 k modem and promptly shuts itself off and reboots.
Computer will run fine if you place a Linux live cd, or let it sit in the Bios without reboot.
Can access all files on harddisk with Ubuntu linux live CD
Borrowed a XP home cd and tried to do a fixboot and fixmbr
Computer is running AVG free and is up to date.
I don't mind if XP would be set back to factory defaults becuase theres nothing I really want to keep on that system and if there is anything I can save the info to a thumb drive.
Thinking of formatting and forgetting windows totally but don't want to go though the trouble of using a windows emulator to play sim city on linux but if thems the breaks I'd be happy to live with that.
Any advice would be great and I would be greatly appreciated by your truly.
