In Learning a foreign language many mistakes are made because of direct
translation from the mother tongue
Here are some mistakes we make in English and a clarification of the correct form we must use to have a correct English

o not confuse: watch and clock A watch is small. Most people wear a watch on their wrist.
When I want to know what time it is I look at my watch.
A clock is larger than a watch. We put a clock on a table or hang it on the wall. In our house we have a clock in the living room.
* Do not say : It is eight and a half
Say: It is half past eight

Do not confuse: Floor and Ground
A floor is in a building
The ground is outside the house
A floor is often made of wood
The ground consists of earth
We sweep the floor with a broom
We plough the ground with a plough
We put rugs on the floor of a house
We play football on the playground of our school

Do not confuse ceiling and roof
A ceiling is the upper side of a room
A roof is the top of a house
The ceiling in our classroom is white. The ceiling is high.
I can not reach the ceiling even If I stand on a desk.
The roof of our house is made of red tiles. The roof is very steep.
My father won't let me climb up on the roof.
